live and learn and never forget it

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away the year 2012, I originally started this blog as an alternative to my LiveJournal. LiveJournal was always more “personal” to me – it was where I posted my writing, yes, but it was also where I would yell and flail and talk with my friends, and write about the ongoing nonsense of my days, or the silly, fannish things I was passionate about. This blog was always meant to be serious; a place where I would be professional, and where I could archive the short fiction and poetry I was writing at the time. I always intended on doing more with this site – putting up more fiction! bits of my novel! responses to topical pop culture-y things! – but I never quite got around to it. Finishing my undergraduate degrees got in the way, then graduate school, then dealing with job changes and relationship issues, then moving between Hawaii, the Adirondacks, Buffalo, and Boston, and then more personal issues, then graduate school again, and…

I think you can see where I’m going with this.

One of my goals this year was to write more, regardless of whatever else I had going on in my life. Now that I’m in the early part of my thirties, I think it’s important to have a place where I can talk about not just the challenges I’m facing, and the things I’m learning, but the struggles and the successes that I’m dealing with, too. It’s good to have a place where I can celebrate all the different parts of me, rather than compartmentalizing everything.

I want to be the kind of person who pushes themselves to do good, to do better; I want to be the kind of person who sets goals and actually keeps them. The 2010s weren’t always the greatest time for me, but it’s 2020, now, babes. It’s a whole new decade of change and possibility ahead, and I think that in the midst of it all, I’m going to finally have some fun in the process.

Hopefully, since you’re here, you will, too.

So come on, guys. Let’s go have an adventure. ❤
